Icon – the picture of a certain religious subjects, or Holy, made, as a rule, on a wooden board using special paints. For many centuries, the Orthodox Russia, written by masters wonderful icons. icon painting technique is complex and unique.
Each icon is composed of four main parts – layers.
The first layer – the shield of wooden boards + pavaloka – is its basis. The second layer – the soil, or gesso
The third layer – painting, consisting of drawing and painting materials: pigments, prepared with natural egg emulsion.
The fourth layer, which protects the painting from external influences, is a thin film of solidified vegetable oil (linseed oil) or varnish.
In accordance with this work over the icon is divided into four main stages: the basis of selection, application of soil, painting and fixing it.
The basis is usually lime board. Boards for icons, made all the canonical rules I order in the workshop Monastery Poschupovo village (Russia).
Tempera on gesso on a wooden base with the use of natural pigments – the traditional technique of iconography, which I use tempera paints .Svyazuyuschim substance sluzhatemulsii – natural (water diluted egg yolk or whole egg) or artificial (drying oils in aqueous adhesives, polymers).
Tempera colors – one of the oldest. The history of the use of tempera paint has more than 3 thousand years. So, the famous painting of the ancient Egyptian pharaohs sarcophagi made tempera paints. Tempera colors unusually durable.
In iconography, there is a certain kanon. No is not only a framework and regulations, and the inner core, the basis of the icon-image content and meaning, symbolism and iconography, writing techniques and a set of stories.
I adhere to the classical, canonical writing style icons.
